January is a motivating month to sweat off any holiday accumulation—shedding the after effects of enjoying and indulging can motivate us even more. Especially when we're wearing tees that encourage us to “Work Hard” and accomplish our new goals for the year. We're kicking off 2016 with a fitness bang by mixing up our fitness routine along with our workout wardrobes, which is the idea behind our new collection. Keryn and her team weigh in on how to mix things up this season.
Was there a collective inspiration behind the upcoming Spring season?
Hybridizing! A playful mashup of workouts that were once considered separate are trending: CrossFit + Yoga. Core + Power. Piloxing. TRX + Pilates. Yoga + Spinning. Our Spring collection allows you to handle the seeming opposites of these activities, such as extreme stretching with high cardio. One example is our Mat and Move legging that works to wick away sweat because the fabric is cool to the touch, yet provides substantial support.
What are the standout prints?
In one word, our Cloud Print is optimistic. You see a rainbow and blue sky breaking through the clouds; it reminds us of that feeling of pride and strength when you get through your run despite the dreary weather.
Another stimulating print is called Hybrid Geo, where you can see a hidden, digitized animal print.
What fits are new and exciting?
My absolute favorite this season is the Sweat It Out collection—the sleekest “sweats” you’ve ever worn. Made with minimal seaming, you won’t experience any chafing or distraction when you wear any of these pieces. We’ve designed them in fashion-forward silhouettes: The pullover hoodie, relaxed jogger, a relaxed tank and long-line bralette. You can wear this outfit for a class and to lift weights, and also out and about—it’s sophisticated and sporty. We have a range of fits in our bottoms collection, from tights to joggers to wide legs and culottes. We’ve also expanded our favorite leggings and tops to 14 different prints and fabrications.
Are there any pieces that are better for certain workouts?
We built all our pieces to transition from one activity to another. We wanted to break down some barriers. The point is to be able to wear lucy all day...before, between, after, during, and on the way to the studio. We played around with this hybrid idea in our Savasana Tank, which is a sharp style in a featherweight fabric with a touch of wool for unexpected softness and warmth.
Our Cloud Breaker collection can be singled out for running. It can be tough motivating to go outside when it's cold and wet, especially after an indulgent holiday season, and this print embodies the feeling of accomplishment when you complete your run. Clear head, expanded lungs, warmed body—it's that moment of joy you feel when you see blue sky peek through clouds and know you've pushed through the hardest part of something. This collection consists of the Cloud Breaker Jacket, Cloud Breaker Run Tight, Cloud Breaker long sleeve (coming soon!) and the Sunday Runday tank.
Where did the mantras for the message tops come from?
Everyone can benefit from a little encouragement and we thought motivational graphics could be like having your workout buddy by your side, supporting you in a stylish way. Everyone on our design team is active and understands it can be a challenge to get a good workout in during a busy day. The mantras “Work Hard” and “Never Don’t Stop” are extensions of our "Woman Up" attitude. They are words that give us a boost of energy.
What's one styling tip for lucy fans?
Mix it up. Hybridize your wardrobe! You can match a Strong Start Jacket with a Do Everything Cuffed Pant in our Ink Blot print and create a set. Or mix up some warm tops and loose bottoms and fresh colors to create a system of layers for whatever conditions you need for any given class or environment.
The beginning of a new year often comes with the feeling of a fresh start. It's another year to try new things, accomplish goals, and evolve. All those hours of yoga in 2015 allowed you to master Crow pose. (Awesome.) How are you going to hybridize your workout this year?
